VARSITY GAME SUMMARY:
The Varsity played Akins in another cold weather thriller. The Maroons were down 2-0 and scored to make it 2-1. Akins answered quickly to make it 3-1. Game over right? Not so fast. The Maroons fought back. Gooooal 3-2, and then it got loud. I was standing with Principal Sandy Compian. If you think she is not a soccer fan, think again! This lady was screaming! And then, gooooal, tied 3-3!!! The crowd was raucous! Akins scored again to win 4-3, but this young team, amazingly, and once again, never quit.
Our defense is decimated with injuries. Coach Arreola is shuffling the deck back there, weekly, to find the right fit, but they fought on. There were signs of offensive fire power tonight. Otilio Guerrero had a beautiful dribble and shot into a skinny corner. Michael Byckovski served up a dream for Thomas Quick's first score. Quick scored again later on a nice chip from Madison Garni. We had many more shots on goal, and scoring opportunities, than our other games. We probably had more time of possession than Akins, also. Our offensive players played extremely well. Next to hitting a home run in baseball, scoring goals in soccer is one of the hardest things in all of sports. This team is improving weekly. Heads high Maroons!
